This year’s Black Friday is quickly approaching and because of recent global supply chain issues causing disarray in the retail space, it is a Black Friday with unusually high stakes. Christmas shoppers will have to roll the dice on whether they should wait for Black Friday deals or purchase now before the dismal inventory gets even more dismal.
To sweeten the Black Friday deals and persuade shoppers to wait until November 26th to do their Christmas shopping, some major retailers are implementing Black Friday price match guarantees.
To find out what retailers are offering price-match guarantees, how to take advantage of the offers, and if there is a catch, keep reading.

What Companies Offer Price Match on Black Friday?
Target and Bed Bath & Beyond offer a Black Frday price match policy to their customers.
The holiday price-matching guarantees in place at some major retailers work much like a purchase price adjustment policy.
These policies will let you get a refund for the difference in the price of a product if the price dropped for that same product after you already purchased it.
This means that if you splurged on a big-ticket item one week and the next week the item’s price dropped by $20, you could pocket that $20 difference. The policies work the same way even if the difference in price is a dollar or purchased something as inexpensive as a box of crayons.
Many retailers already have price-matching policies in place. However, the price-matching policies may come with a few conditions during the holiday season, especially concerning Black Friday.
A few of the major retailers that have price-matching policies in place this holiday season are detailed in the following sections.
Walmart
You might be surprised and delighted to discover that Walmart has a price-match policy in place all year round.
This is a pretty cool benefit to customers when you already market extremely competitive prices. However, this price-matching policy excludes Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
This means that you cannot ask for a price match on a competing store’s Black Friday deal for the same product at Walmart.
In regards to their standard price-matching policy, the product in question must be identical and must be in stock on both Walmart.com and on the competing retailer’s site to be considered eligible for price-matching. Other conditions include:
- Limit one price-match per customer per day,
- Items purchased from Marketplace or third-party sellers do not qualify,
- Checkout discounts and offers with fixed percentages off do not qualify,
- Bundles and mail-in offers do not qualify, and
- Discounts from rebates, flash sales, and pickup promotions do not qualify.

Target
On the contrary to Walmart, Target has a holiday price-matching policy in place from October through December 24th. This timeline does allow for Black Friday deals to be eligible for price-matching. However, Target will only price-match the prices at specified retailers, such as Amazon and Walmart. This includes the following:
Amazon.com | Apple.com | BedBathandBeyond.com | Bestbuy.com | Barnesandnoble.com |
Buybuybaby.com | Chewy.com | Costco.com | CVS.com | DicksSportingGoods.com |
Gamestop.com | HomeDepot.com | JCPenney.com | Kmart.com | Kohls.com |
Lowes.com | Macys.com | Newegg.com | OfficeDepot.com | Petco.com |
Petsmart.com | SamsClub.com | Sears.com | Sephora.com | Staples.com |
Ulta.com | Walmart.com | Wayfair.com | Walgreens.com |
To take advantage of Target’s holiday price-matching policy, all you need to do is show a receipt or other form of proof of purchase at a Target location for purchases made in-store. For purchases made online, you can call Target’s Guest Services to request a price match.
In addition to the proof of purchase and limitation on retailers for which Target will accept a price-match request, there are a few other conditions to keep in mind:
- Price-match is only valid when the competing sale is valid,
- Amazon’s lightning deals and Target Circle offers do not qualify,
- The item must be identical and in stock at both stores, and
- Clearance and closeout items do not qualify.

Best Buy
Following suit of Walmart’s price-matching policy, Best Buy’s price-matching policy excludes Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, it is a benefit offered year-round for products from an accepted list of retailers. Best Buy will only price-match prices offered from Amazon, Crutchfield, Dell, HP, and TigerDirect.
As with the previous two policies, the product in question must be identical, including the color and model number. Slightly different from the other two policies, though, the product must be brand new, as Best Buy will not accept refurbished devices.
If you are interested in price-matching at Best Buy, there are several other restrictions to consider:
- Price-match is only valid when the competing sale is valid,
- Bundles and mail-in offers do not qualify,
- Prices offered through member-only offers or loyalty programs do not qualify, and
- Discounts offered from Best Buy Education, Best Buy Business, and Best Buy Marketplace do not qualify.

Bed Bath & Beyond
Perhaps the holy grail of price-matching is Bed Bath & Beyond because its policy does apply to Black Friday sales.
Bed Bath and Beyond will price-match any retailer with the same exact product in both their retail locations and online store. They also offer both pre-purchase and post-purchase price-matching.
The product in question must be identical and clearance or closeout items are not eligible.
To take advantage of Bed Bath & Beyond’s price-matching policy, simply bring in your receipt or other forms of proof of purchase and the competing retailer’s advertised price.

Conclusion
Despite the fact that many retailers have price-matching conditions around Black Friday deals, you can still find ways to get the best price by cross-checking prices before you purchase or by purchasing from stores that offer price-matching during the holiday season, such as Target and Bed Bath & Beyond. Happy shopping!
