An Australian retailer, Bunnings will happily help customers exchange or return their goods purchased from any one of their stores. Their returns policy falls within your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. When you enter the store with a product to return, you must identify the products to the door reader or gatekeeper upon entry.
If you do not have your proof of purchase, Bunnings will still allow you to return a product. However, they will take down your identification.
Bunnings allows for 30 days to return a product. As long as you are in that window and have the receipt, tax invoice, or proof of purchase, most returns will be accepted at Bunnings.
Most Bunnings store locations have a designated returns and exchanges desk. There, Bunnings team members will provide you with full assistance.
All refunds will be provided back in the original tender. Checks, on the other hand, will be refunded as cash once bank processing of the check has cleared. Credit card refunds must be processed back onto the same credit card.
For their plant products, Bunnings guarantees their plants for 12 months. If you are not 100% happy with the plant, you may return it with the receipt and it will be refunded. This excludes seedlings, including flowers and vegetable seedlings. It also excludes potted bloomers, or short-lived plants that are not expected to live more than 3 to 5 months in the garden.
If you made your purchase at a Bunnings store, enter the store and immediately identify your return to the greeter or gatekeeper. From there, you’ll be directed to the returns and exchanges desk. The staff will walk you through the process. Be sure to have your proof of purchase or tax invoice with you.
Online purchases can be returned in store with the tax invoice.
Most Bunnings purchases will need to be returned in store. However, if you have questions about returning an online item, you will need to contact the customer support team. They can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bunnings requires you to return your items within 30 days. It is also important that you have your proof of purchase, tax invoice, or other documentation at hand. If you do not have these items, they will take down your information, such as what is found on your driver’s license. However, they still reserve the right to refuse your return or refund.
Exchanges are eligible for certain items. As long as the proof of purchase is provided along with the item and within 30 days of purchase, you can exchange an item.
Exchanges are not eligible on items that do not qualify for returns.
Certain items cannot be returned to Bunnings locations. These items include:
- Custom-made products.
- Any products specifically cut to size per your request.
- Toilet seats, if the packaging has been opened.
- Tinted paint.
If you receive a custom-made product, or have a product specifically cut to size per your request and the job is done incorrectly, you may still be able to exchange them.
If you received an item that is damaged or faulty, reach out to Bunnings’s customer service. They will work with you to issue an exchange for the same item. They may also be able to repair the item.
If there’s a major problem with an item you received, Bunnings states that you are entitled to a replacement, repair, or refund. Examples of major failure with the products include issues that would have stopped you from buying it if you knew about it first, faults that make it unsafe, or the product being significantly different from the description.
However, bear in mind that this does not include damages that occurred from misuse. If it seems that the product was used incorrectly and broken, Bunnings will refuse the refund, exchange, or repair.
If the fault is not on you, and Bunnings cannot repair the product within a reasonable time, you may opt to choose a refund or replacement.
Does Bunnings Give Full Refunds?
As long as items are undamaged, unused, and still within the acceptable 30 day return window, Bunnings will issue you a full refund. How long the refund takes to enter your bank account will depend heavily on the bank you have.
Can I Return Bunnings Products After Use?
For the most part, Bunnings products should be in good, unused condition when you return them. They must be in their original packages, and being sellable condition. Bunnings reserves the right to refuse any exchange or refund.
How Long Do Bunnings Refunds Take?
Typical commercial customer returns will take 10 days to return. Retail customers purchasing special order or custom-made products should expect a 30-day return turnaround. Retail customers purchasing all other products will experience a 14-day turnaround.

Bunnings provides many house and homewares, perfect for building or commercial projects. Because of that, they allowed 30 days for exchanges based on the buyer changing their mind.
As long as it’s not one of the items that are prohibited for returns, such as woodcut to the buyer’s specifications, and the product is still in the original package, you can process a return.
If you are unsure of anything regarding Bunnings’s return policy, call the store’s customer service line. You can also chat with them at the customer service desk of your local store location.
