How To Return Amazon Products

If you purchased an item from Amazon but find that you need to return it for whatever reason follow these steps for successful returns.*

*Note: make sure you return the item within the 30 day time frame outlined above.

  1. From the Amazon homepage click on “Returns & Orders.” This will be in the upper right corner.
  2. This will take you to a page that lists all of your previous orders from Amazon. To the right of each order there will be several buttons. One of the buttons will say “Return or replace items.” Click it.
  3. This will take you to a new page with the item in question. There will be a check box next to the item. Click the check box so that a check mark appears.
  4. Then, on the same page, select a reason for your return from the drop down menu. Some reasons will require you to enter more information in a text box.
  5. Once this has been filled out, click the yellow “Continue” button. This will take you to a page that will ask if you would like to exchange the item for another item or simply receive a refund. Make your choice and click “Continue” again,
  6. This will take you to a return label on a new page that you can print out. This page will also prompt you to answer whether you want to drop off your item at a UPS store or schedule a package pickup. Please note that if the error/reason for return was Amazon’s fault, the pickup is free, but if it was your fault you will have to pay an additional fee for this service.

How Strict Is The Amazon Return Policy?

The return policy is pretty strict. In certain cases they will allow you to return items after the allotted 30 days but in these cases there is often an additional fee (unless it is a specialty item with a longer return period).

Amazon Exchange Policy

When returning an item to Amazon you will be asked if you want to exchange it for another item or receive a refund. To exchange an item follow these steps:

  1. On the “Your Orders” page, click “Return or replace items” on the right of the item you are exchanging.
  2. Select the item you want to exchange and the reason for doing so. According to Amazon “an exchange order will be created with the same shipping speed that was used on your original item.”
  3. Print the return label and return your original item within 30 days to avoid paying for the original and the exchange item.

Please note that Amazon does not price match and this policy is only in regards to color or size exchanges. If your new item is more expensive than the previous you will have to pay the difference in price. If it is cheaper you will receive a refund for the difference.

Mostly, yes. However, it will be dependent on which country you made the online purchase from and which store you are heading to.

If you have purchased from Schuh in Ireland then you will have paid in €. This means that you will not be able to return the shoes to any British stores. The same applies if you buy from a British store. You will not be able to return to an Irish store.

REI is one of the leading suppliers of camping and outdoor equipment in the US. Part of the reason for this is their rather generous returns policy. With very few exceptions, you can return anything that you purchase from REI within one year for a complete refund.

What is REI’s return policy?

REI prides itself on a 100% satisfaction guaranteed policy.

This means that for most products in the REI range, you have one year to return them. If you return them, then you will be able to enjoy a complete refund or exchange.

    Can you return an online purchase to the store

    You can return online purchases directly to an REI store. However, you will need to bring in proof of purchase.

    If you did not keep the receipt that came with your REI purchase, then you will be able to print the information off from their website. You just need to log in to your account.

    How strict is the REI return policy?

    REI has one of the most generous returns policies in the US. It is very rare that they will decline a refund or exchange, assuming that you are returning within the returns period and meet their rather generous restrictions.

    That being said, they do have some rather strict requirements on which items can be returned i.e. how you purchased them. For example, if you bought used items, they aren’t going to budge from the 30-days return period. If you bought the products from an REI garage sale, then they will never accept the return.

    Yes. Assuming it is not used equipment nor a restricted item, then you will be able to return the product after 30-days. In many cases, you actually have up to a year to receive a refund on your product.

    There are actually very few exceptions for returning products to REI. This is because their 100% satisfaction guarantee is incredibly broad. That being said, a policy like this couldn’t work without some restrictions.

    You cannot return any items that are marked as ‘final sale’. You will only be able to return them if you are planning on making a warranty claim.

    Wear and tear

    If you are returning an item due to expected wear and tear, then you may not be able to claim under the REI return policy. This will normally be a judgment call on the part of REI. For example, if it is evident that you have had a lot of use out of the product, the return may be denied.

    If any item was purchased from a garage sale at REI (regular promotions they run throughout the year), then they may not be able to accept a return.

    The StockX return policy is fairly strict, and the only time you may see a refund is if there is an issue that is the fault of the company. You cannot return or exchange items that you mistakenly bought, but you can resell them on the site.

    StockX is gaining popularity as the stock market of things, and the site provides a unique opportunity to get items at great prices. Understanding the return policy is essential to understand what protections are available to you as a buyer.

    What Is the Return Policy at StockX?

    StockX returns operate on a case-by-case basis. If there is an issue with your order you need to contact customer service in writing within 3 days of the receipt of the item.

    To do this:

    • Send an email to the customer service team to register the issue in writing within the 3-day return window.
    • Explain in great detail any issues with the product, including undisclosed damage or signs of forgery.
    • Include photos of the issue, as well as a photo that shows that the StockX verification tag is still attached to the item.
    • Include at least one sharp image of the QR code on the StockX verification tag.

    How Strict Is the StockX Return Policy?

    The StockX return policy is considered to be very strict. You have a small window to start the process for the return, and the product must be in the exact condition it was sent in to even start to qualify for a return.

    On February 19, 2020, Groupon announced that it would be discontinuing its physical goods store. There are still goods remaining on the Groupon Goods page, but how long it will last is anyone’s guess. 

    However, for as long as the Goods still last, along with everything else that Groupon typically offers, you can still take advantage of Groupon’s refund policy on Groupon Goods, GrouponLive, Groupon Getaways, and Groupon Local Deals. 

    Although the Groupon announcement indicated that their Goods would be closed down in the third quarter of 2020 and they would no longer be selling physical items globally by the end of 2020, there are still physical goods available on their Goods page.

    What Is The Return Policy At Groupon?

    The Groupon Return Policy is only viable so long as you contact Groupon customer service within the 14-day window after purchasing an item. The Groupon policy states that they will work with the merchant and yourself to make the situation right again. 

    This applies even if you’ve already taken advantage of the offer or goods. For instance, If you use Groupon to purchase a hotel room for a two-night stay, and it wasn’t to your liking, contact Groupon within 14 days of the purchase.

    The Groupon policy applies to any local deals, Groupon Getaways, Groupon Goods, and GrouponLive. 

    • Groupon Goods: Applies to physical items purchased through Groupon. How long the Goods section will last, considering Groupon’s announcement, is unknown.

    Inside the 24-hour window, a refund or trade-in is simple and quick. Outside of that, Groupon will honor returns within the timeframe allotted for each group, but you’ll have to contact customer service and jump through hoops to get it.

    How Do I Get A Groupon Refund After 7 Days?

    Anything outside of a 24-hour window is going to have to go through Groupon customer service. However, most items purchased through Groupon—unless stated otherwise—are refundable within 30 days.

    How Do I Get A Refund On An Expired Groupon?

    For that, you will have to contact Groupon customer service. Your request would be processed only if Groupon decides to accept it. Most likely, they won’t, as an expired Groupon will be outside of their normal timeframe.

    However, you never know and whoever you speak to may be willing to give you a refund, most likely depending on what side of the bed they woke up on that morning. Groupon return policies can be a bit aggravating but with a little time and patience, you may get what you’re after in the end.

    Zara is a clothing retailer that is part of Inditex, which is the largest retailer of apparel in the world. If you’re unfamiliar with Zara, there are only 98 stores throughout the continental United States with the vast majority located in California.

    What Is The Return Policy At Zara?

    Zara do have a return and exchange policy. You have 30 days after the item has been shipped to request an exchange, after which you will have 14 days to return the item to Zara.

    If Zara hasn’t received the items that you sent back to exchange within the 14-day period, your payment method will be charged for the price of the item that you made an exchange request for. 

    The exchange policy is the same in-store, so long as you bring the item back within the 30-day period, in pristine and unopened condition. 

    Zara will accept returns up to 30-days after the purchasing date. In order to return an item, you’ll have to access your Zara account—either at the online store or on the Android or iOS app—and fill out a Return Request form.

    According to Zara’s Return Policy, the returned item must be in “perfect” condition, and still in its original packaging. It’s ok if it has been removed from the exterior package, such as a box or large envelope, so long as the packaging around the item is unopened. 

    If you made an in-store purchase, the same rules apply except you will have to return to the store with the unopened product in perfect condition, provide a receipt, and you will not have to fill out a Return Request as you would for an online return.

    How Strict Is The Zara Return Policy?

    The strictest part of Zara’s return policy is the perfect, unopened package along with filling out a Return Request form. Like most retailers, you’ll have to provide a receipt. 

    According to Zara, they will only issue your refund in the form of the payment in which you purchased the product. Also, items purchased in-store can only be returned in-store, not via shipping.

    Zara Return Policy Online

    Like online exchanges, you have to fill out a Return Request.  Once the request is approved, you have to ship the item back, paid for by Zara, and when it is received, they will refund your money in the same payment form you originally used.

    Can I Return Items To Zara After 30 Days?

    Zara’s official policy is that no, you cannot return items purchased at Zara outside of the 30-day window. However, for in-store items, you may be able to convince local management to accept a return after 30 days but that would be on a case-by-case basis. 

    Of course, dealing with a manager and dealing with online returns are two different things. Online is not likely to be on a case-by-case basis, the result of which means that you probably won’t be able to return a product outside of the 30-day timeframe.

    Are There Return Exceptions?

    Zara does have a number of exceptions, which they label under the term, “special conditions.” According to Zara, these items have “certain criteria that must be fulfilled” in order to return them. 

    • Swimwear: Has to have the “hygiene” sticker still on it
    • Underwear: No exchanges or returns for underwear with the exception of vests, tops and bodysuits
    • Watches: Original condition and home return only
    • Fragrances: Has to be returned in the exact condition in which it was purchased
    • Accessories: Still in the bag and/or original box
    • Packs: Individual items within packs can’t be returned separately
    • Cosmetics: Has to be returned in the exact condition and packaging in which it was purchased
    • ZARATTRIBUTE T-shirts: Cannot be removed from the box before returning
    • Special packaging items: Must be returned with all items intact and nothing individually

    Any situations outside of those exceptions would have to be cleared up by contacting customer service. 

    Can You Return Items To Zara Without A Receipt?

    Zara’s official stance on their return policy is that all items must be returned intact, in their original packaging, within the thirty-day period, and with the original receipt. 

    You’re not likely to get around that policy with the possible exception of in-store purchases. In those cases, you can speak to a manager and possibly get a refund on an item that was purchased from there.

    It’s especially helpful if you remember the person who processed your order when you made the purchase, as you can always approach them to get started. Sure, there’s a policy against returning items without a receipt but dealing with people face to face can change things.

    Either way, trying to return an in-store purchase is going to be on a case-by-case basis, outside of the official store policy.
